Read these with care
- The median is the middle member: half did more, half did less. It is less affected by a few very active members than the average.
- Ministers answer questions rather than ask them, and the presiding officers rarely vote, so their patterns differ.
- Government backbenchers are often given arranged "Dorothy Dixer" questions, which raises their question counts.
- Votes only record ayes and noes, so a missed vote cannot be told apart from a pair (an agreed absence).
- Counts cover only what is on this site, and do not measure electorate or committee work. New members have less history.
Question Time
Question from Tracey Roberts
The member asked the treasurer to detail the progress made in reducing inflation.
Background: The member asked the Treasurer about progress in the fight against inflation.
Answer from Jim Chalmers
The treasurer stated that headline and underlying inflation were back in the Reserve Bank's target band for the first time since 2021, allowing for two interest rate cuts. He noted that Australia had achieved low inflation with low unemployment and continuous economic growth, unlike other advanced economies. He emphasized that responsible economic management and cost-of-living relief were defining features of the government's approach.
Question from Tracey Roberts
The member asked how the government was working to make families better off with energy bills and what energy policies would leave Australians worse off.
Background: A government member asked the Minister for Climate Change and Energy how the government was making families better off with energy bills.
Answer from Chris Bowen
The Minister stated that the government was delivering $300 in bill relief to every household. He highlighted that four gigawatts of dispatchable energy and 15 gigawatts of renewables had been added to the grid in three years, funded largely by the private sector. He contrasted this with the opposition's plan to fund nuclear power from taxpayer money, which he argued would require cuts to other services and leave taxpayers worse off.
