Read these with care
- The median is the middle member: half did more, half did less. It is less affected by a few very active members than the average.
- Ministers answer questions rather than ask them, and the presiding officers rarely vote, so their patterns differ.
- Government backbenchers are often given arranged "Dorothy Dixer" questions, which raises their question counts.
- Votes only record ayes and noes, so a missed vote cannot be told apart from a pair (an agreed absence).
- Counts cover only what is on this site, and do not measure electorate or committee work. New members have less history.
Question Time
Question from Nita Green
The member asked how the government is helping workers earn more and keep more of their income through workplace relations reforms.
Background: Cost-of-living pressures remain a concern for Australian workers, though real wages are growing and unemployment is low.
Answer from Murray Watt
The minister stated that the government has delivered five consecutive quarters of real wage growth, reversing the previous government's record. He noted that the average full-time worker earns over $200 a week more than under the coalition. He criticized the opposition for proposing job cuts, including in the Department of Veterans' Affairs, and for voting against cost-of-living measures. He warned that the opposition plans to cut workers' rights, including the right to disconnect and casual protections.
Question from Nita Green
The member asked for an update on the current situation and the support available to affected communities.
Background: Severe weather and flooding were impacting communities across North Queensland.
Answer from Jenny McAllister
The minister reported that the situation remained dynamic, with flood warnings in place across the region. She noted that the Australian Defence Force had assisted with recovery efforts, including constructing a temporary bridge on the Bruce Highway. The government had activated disaster recovery payments and personal hardship assistance for worst-impacted communities. Concessional loans were available to farmers, small enterprises, and charitable organisations. An $8 million community relief fund was established to support local councils. She also highlighted investments in the national aerial firefighting fleet and emergency stockpile.
Question from Nita Green
The member asked how the new health agreement would strengthen Medicare and contribute to building Australia's future.
Background: The Prime Minister and the Minister for Health announced a new agreement to provide funding for public hospitals and health services for a further year.
Answer from Penny Wong
The minister described the agreement as transformative, providing $33.91 billion for 2025-26, including an additional $1.7 billion. She stated this funding would help cut waiting lists and reduce emergency room wait times. She contrasted this with previous government cuts and highlighted historic investments in Medicare rebates.
