Read these with care
- The median is the middle member: half did more, half did less. It is less affected by a few very active members than the average.
- Ministers answer questions rather than ask them, and the presiding officers rarely vote, so their patterns differ.
- Government backbenchers are often given arranged "Dorothy Dixer" questions, which raises their question counts.
- Votes only record ayes and noes, so a missed vote cannot be told apart from a pair (an agreed absence).
- Counts cover only what is on this site, and do not measure electorate or committee work. New members have less history.
Question Time
Question from Terry Young
The member asked when power prices would come down.
Background: The member cited a business in his electorate that saw its power bill surge by 4712 per cent compared to November 2022.
Answer from Chris Bowen
The minister highlighted three rounds of energy bill relief and the Cheaper Home Batteries policy, which had been installed by nearly 137,000 households. He argued that renewables backed by gas and storage reduce bills and emissions, contrasting this with the opposition's plan to extend coal asset life, which he claimed would increase prices.
Question from Terry Young
The member asked why constituents were facing a bulk-billing crisis under the current government, given the fall in rates since 2019.
Background: The member cited a drop in bulk-billing rates in his electorate from 93 per cent to 79 per cent.
Answer from Mark Butler
The Minister attributed the pressure on bulk-billing to a six-year freeze on Medicare rebates under the previous government. He stated that the government had tripled the bulk-billing incentive, which had stopped the freefall and increased bulk-billing in every state and territory. He noted that six million free doctor visits were delivered last year.
