Question Time
Question from James Stevens
The member asked why constituents were enduring a bulk-billing crisis under the current government, given the decline in rates since 2019.
Background: The member cited a drop in bulk-billing rates in his electorate from 79 per cent to 69 per cent.
Answer from Mark Butler
The Minister blamed the previous government for attempting to abolish bulk-billing and freezing Medicare rebates for six years. He stated that the government had tripled the bulk-billing incentive, which had stopped the slide in every state and territory, including South Australia. He emphasized that the government was strengthening Medicare after inheriting a difficult situation.
